Securing Lampeter's Future

In mid-November, the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD) announced that it was considering ending undergraduate education at the Lampeter campus, after more than 200 years. 

Following a public meeting chaired by Elin in the University's Arts Hall, discussions are now underway to explore the development of post-16 vocational training programs on campus.

Plans are currently being considered to develop post-16 vocational training on the Lampeter campus. The University continues to explore new and sustainable educational options for the site. See the update about the campus on the BBC website.


27 February 2025

A public meeting was held at the University Arts Hall in Lampeter. The meeting was chaired by Elin Jones MS, with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Elwen Evans, and senior officials presenting the context for the decision to relocate the Humanities provision. Options for the future of the campus were also discussed. You can read more about the meeting here on the BBC website.


23 January 2025

The University announced that it had approved the proposal to relocate the Humanities provision from Lampeter to Carmarthen. Students will begin at the new location in September 2025.


22 January 2025

A protest was held on the steps of the Senedd with the support of Elin Jones MS and Cefin Campbell MS, calling on the Welsh Government to help secure the future of the University and the town. Many alumni, friends of the University, and local residents were present.

“There is no doubt that the University’s decision to transfer its Humanities provision from Lampeter has caused great concern for us here in Ceredigion, but I welcome the opportunity to work with the University to look to the future and find a viable solution so we can safeguard the campus.”
